Frequently asked questions.

How does the tuning process work?

When you arrive to your appointment you will have to sign a liability waiver. Your vehicles battery will be connected to an additional power source to keep the voltage stable for flashing your ECU. We will connect to the vehicles ODBII port and verify if a Toyota ECU update is required. After the ECU update we will flash the ECU with our custom tune. After idling the engine for about 5 min you will take your vehicle for a quick drive. This gives you an opportunity to get a feel for the throttle response, and if needed we can adjust the throttle to be either more or less aggressive. In total please plan in about 30 to 45 minutes.

How long does it take for the tune to settle in?

Over the first 500 km after applying the tune your vehicle will re-learn the shift points and to some degree the throttle response. If after 500km you feel that minor changes are required you can contact us and the tune will be adjusted. Please note that not every vehicle responses equally to tuning. There are many variables like tire size, accessories and driving style which come into play.

Is the fuel economy affected?

Every truck is different. It greatly depends on driver style and vehicle configuration. Most customers reported slightly improved fuel economy or stay about the same - with much more smiles per mile. Most improved fuel economy has been reported from customers with manual transmission vehicles (up to 1.5l/100km)

Does the tune affect my trucks warranty?

Any modification done to a vehicle may void the warranty. That having said, the tune cannot be easily detected by the Dealership since the ECU will still report as stock after the tune is applied. We have tuned many brand new trucks, some directly of the Dealership lot with less than 50km on the clock. None of our customers had any issues when bringing in the truck for service or warranty work.

Do I have to use 91 octane?

No, you do not have to use 91 octane. All tunes are self learning. You can select a tune which runs from 87 to 91 octane, or another tune which accepts 91-93 octane. Most customers use 87 octane after the tune as it is more cost efficient. If you want the more out of your truck, you can switch to 91 octane which will give you approximately another 20hp and a smoother running engine.

Warning: If you specifically ask to get the high octane tune for 91-93 you can not use any lower octane than 91 in your vehicle without running the risk of damaging the engine.

I have removed my catalytic converter. Can you turn off the check engine light?

No, we do not provide this service. All vehicles must have fully operational emissions systems, regardless of your provinces/states regulations.
